Where education meets technology and they become good friends

Creative Spaghetti

It’s Friday night and it’s time to unwind after a long week. Try out a little creative cooking!

I can use this video as an alluring hook and inspiration for students before my next claymation activity!

While they’re watching it, I’ll challenge them to figure out all the unusual materials that were used to make the spaghetti, and I’ll bet their creative brains will spin and twirl with their own fun ideas for a claymation!

I’ve worked with teachers who used claymation to illustrate literary elements in a novel or a story, such as setting and characters, to animate historical events, and to invent fractured fairy tales. Sometimes it makes a bit of a mess, but I’ve found that the most memorable activities usually do!

Oh, and by the way… the most engaged students in these activities - producing the best claymations I’ve ever seen - came from the high school level. Yes, older students like to play with clay! They also love working with digital cameras and MovieMaker (or iMovie, depending on your OS).

Challenge: This video shows the use of many materials other than clay. Is it possible to work with students on an animation project without using any clay at all; i.e., without having to spend any money on materials?
