A development kit that software developers can use to create applications.. The Android platform is a software for mobile devices such as an operating system, middleware and key applications stack. Developers can build applications for the platform using the Android SDK. Applications are designed in writing, using the Java programming language and run on Dalvik, a custom virtual machine for embedded applications running on a Linux kernel. If you know how you want to develop applications for Android, you're in the right place. This site offers a variety of documents that will help you learn more about Android and develop mobile applications for the platform. Android SDK contains: · Platform Android 2.0.1 · Android 1.6 platform · Android 1.5 platform · SDK tools, r4 · ADT 0.9.5 Android SDK major features: Application framework allows the reuse and replacement of components Dalvik virtual machine optimized for mobile devices Built-in browser on the open source WebKit-based Engine Optimized graphics through its own 2D graphics library that is powered, 3D graphics (hardware acceleration optional) on the OpenGL ES 1.0 Specification SQLite for structured data storage Media support for common audio, video and still image formats (MPEG4, H.264, MP3, AAC, AMR, JPG, PNG, GIF) GSM Telephony (hardware dependent) Bluetooth, EDGE, 3G and WiFi (hardware dependent) Camera, GPS, compass and accelerometer (hardware dependent) Rich development environment including device emulator, tools for debugging, memory and performance profiling, and a plugin for the Eclipse IDE Android SDK requirements: Eclipse IDE JDK 5 or JDK 6 (JRE alone is not sufficient) Android Development Tools plugin (optional) Not compatible with GNU compiler for Java (gcj) For the base-SDK package, at least 600 MB free hard disk space. was downloaded for each platform in the SDK, an additional 100MB is required. What is new in the Android SDK: Dependencies: If you are developing in Eclipse with ADT, note that SDK r6 tools designed for use with ADT 0.9.7 and higher. After installing the SDK tools r6, we recommend that you upgrade your ADT Plugin 0.9.7. Library projects: The SDK tools now support the use of library projects in development, a skill that you provide Android application code and resources in a separate project to develop common. You can then access the library project from other projects and Android, in the creation, the tools you compile the shared code and resources as part of the dependent applications. More information about this feature is available in the development in other IDEs document. If you are developing in Eclipse, ADT 0.9.7 provides equivalent library to support the project.
